Orthopaedic Physiotherapy
Orthopaedic surgery is a big step, and good rehabilitation can make a real difference to how confidently someone moves through recovery. We work with people before and after surgery, helping them understand what to expect and giving them a clear plan to build strength, movement and confidence. Our Physiotherapists have specialist experience in orthopaedics, including knee surgery, knee replacement surgery and rehabilitation following shoulder and lower limb procedures. Based at Old Wesley RFC in Dublin 4, we can use our gym and sports facilities to gradually progress rehabilitation as your body heals and your goals become closer.

Pre-Operative Rehab (Prehab)
Preparing well before orthopaedic surgery can put you in a stronger position for the early stages of recovery. Prehab focuses on building strength, maintaining movement and understanding what rehabilitation will involve once the operation is over. Having a plan in place beforehand can make those first weeks feel less daunting and help you get started with the right exercises at the right time.
Post-Operative Rehab
Rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery is not one single phase, and the focus changes as healing progresses. Early rehabilitation may involve restoring movement and gradually coming off crutches or an arm sling, before progressing into strength, coordination and balance work.
Later stages focus on:
-
Return to Function (early healing); weaning off crutches / arm sling, etc.
-
Developing strength and control; muscle training and coordination / balance exercises.
-
Return to Work / Sports; specific rehab to get back to and surpass your performance before surgery or injury.

Return to Sports / Function
Getting back to sport after surgery takes more than simply waiting for pain to disappear. We use specific training and careful planning to build towards running, changing direction, strength and other movements that are important for the person's sport or daily life. The return is gradual and monitored, moving through training before progressing towards match play, competition or full activity when the person is ready.
